Wildfire in California Could Still Worsen

Wildfire (Photo credit: agrilifetoday)

In the San Bernardino foothills, the small town of Banning is currently experiencing an intense wildfire. Though firefighters were able to calm it yesterday, the future weather conditions may expunge their progress and expand the flames.

Currently the fire rests in a 4 ½ mile area and has only claimed one house. There have been no casualties but hundreds have already evacuated their homes. The fire is moving now toward the neighboring communities of Beaumont and Cherry Valley.

The gentleman who lost his home is 53-year-old Joe Kiener. He has resided in his Banning house since the 1970s, when it was purchased by his mother. His attitude toward his loss is uplifting, though. Because he was evacuated in time, he simply feels that “losing the house is just minimal. We can rebuild.”

Despite its current secure situation, firefighters are fearful of its containment as the wind speed is only going to increase as the week goes on. Wind speed ranges from 30-40 mph and with gusts that strong, the fire becomes unpredictable.

With the heavy wind speeds as well as the dry state of the land in Banning, the fire could continue blazing for a longer time and in more locations. It is unknown what damage this fire will cause, so it is extremely important to remain on guard and alert to evacuation notices.

Child Molester Sentenced To Die In Prison

For years, society has tried to figure out what to do with the most perverted members of humanity who inflict harm on innocent children. A criminal judge in Southern California has the answer.

An Orange County judge told a convicted child molester last week that he should die in prison, and then did everything he could to make that happen.

Superior Court Judge Richard King told Luis Alberto Pineda that there was nothing mitigating about his crimes, in which he molested multiple children, violated the trust of their parents and inflicted substantial sexual contact on the victims.

King then sentenced Pineda, a former soccer coach, godfather and karate instructor, to 285 years to life in prison plus 13 years and six months on 27 felony counts, plus several penalty enhancements, and three misdemeanor counts of assault.

The judge handed down the maximum possible term after he listened to poignant victim-impact statements from two of the boys Pineda molested, and from the mother of a third.

Pineda, 31, who was a close friend to many of the parents of the victims, sat silently at the counsel table during the 30-minute sentencing. He did not speak during the sentencing hearing.

He was a karate assistant instructor at Moo Yea Do Martial Arts in Fullerton for six years before he started working as a soccer coach for the North Orange County Youth Soccer Premier League, witnesses testified. He also coached the Fullerton Eagles soccer team, which met for practice at Woodcrest Elementary School in Fullerton and Sycamore Junior High School in Anaheim.

Pineda met many of his victims and their parents while coaching soccer and karate, and he was also the godfather to two of the boys, said Deputy District Attorney Cynthia Nichols.

But between 2005 and October 2009, Pineda also was a predatory pedophile who molested the 11 children, who were mostly 7 to 10 years old, while ordering them to keep quiet about the encounters.

The children, Nichols said, “are fighters who will not be victims for the rest of their lives. The reign of terror the defendant inflicted on these children ends today when he is sentenced to spend the rest of his life in prison.

Pineda was then led from the courtrooms in handcuffs, not looking back to the courtroom gallery as the two boys hugged their parents.

If your child was the victim of a heinous crime that was caused by negligence or some other form of reckless behavior, it is important that you contact a committed and dedicated personal injury lawyer to help you decide if you should file a lawsuit. Legacy Of Night Stalker Continues

Life in Southern California was different in the summer of 1985. A Satanic serial killer unleashed a sadistic reign of terror and more than a dozen people were murdered as result. Not all his victims died. Some bear the scars of 1985 forever.

At least once a week for the past 27 years, an increasingly frail woman has pressed her hands together in prayer and thanked the man who shot her son three times in the head.

Anne Carns, now 85, decided during the terrible summer of 1985 that hating the man newspapers called the “Night Stalker” could consume her, so she began thanking Ramirez instead.

Billy Carns, her 56-year-old son, has a different approach.

On Aug. 25, 1985, Billy was asleep in his Mission Viejo home when Ramirez climbed through an open window, shot Carns with a. 25-caliber handgun and raped his girlfriend – part of a statewide crime rampage that still conjures terror in the minds of many California residents who lived through it.

Ramirez, the devil-worshipping serial killer, was convicted of 13 murders and 11 sexual assaults among 43 felony counts. He was sentenced to the death penalty in 1989. But with appeals pending, Ramirez lives on death row at San Quentin State Prison awaiting an execution date.

A bullet still lodged between his skull and brain, Billy Carns has been serving a far worse, unstable, bizarre life term in Bismarck.

He lives next door to his mother in a small house filled with evidence of frontal-lobe brain trauma – his collections of pens (all red pens are kept in the bathroom while black and blue pens congregate throughout the house), small batteries, house plants ordered from mesmerizing television ads, 1970s stereo components, soldering guns, bars of soap, rotting food (he forgets when he bought it) and medication containers.

Billy sleeps next to the same headboard – dark, routed wood with an oval mirror in the middle – from his 1985 bedroom where the shooting took place. On the wall above the headboard is a drawing of him and his former girlfriend from 1985.

In the basement, on the guest bed, rests the pillowcase with the bullet hole made by Ramirez’s gun. Billy sticks his finger through the bullet hole and shows the outline of a patch that once covered the hole but fell off after so many washings.

Billy lives surrounded by 1985, blurting constantly to anyone who will listen that he was shot three times in the head. “Wanna see my scar?” he says, cheerfully, pulling up his hair to reveal the remnant of an exit wound … while his mother cringes.

Twenty-seven years later, Billy Carns still cannot escape the Night Stalker.

Earthquakes Rattle Southern California

Earthquakes are a part of living in Southern California. Unfortunately, earthquakes cause a lot of damage. In the last 24 hours, there has been quite a bit of seismic activity in the Orange County area.

An earthquake measuring 4.5 in magnitude rocked Orange County at 9:33 a.m. Wednesday, according to preliminary earthquake reports.

The latest quake occurred one mile east-northeast of Yorba Linda.

An earlier magnitude 4.5 earthquake struck just east of Yorba Linda at 11:23 p.m. Tuesday, and was felt across a broad area of Southern California that included Los Angeles County and the Inland Empire, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

No significant damage or injuries have been reported so far from either quake, though some reported items tumbling from shelves.

They were part of a cluster of some 20 quakes in the same area since the initial quake Tuesday night, according to Bob Dollar, a geophysicist with the U.S. Geological Survey.

Six were in the magnitude 2 range, including a 2.7 quake that followed the 4.5 quake Tuesday night, and 11 in the magnitude one range.

“We’ll probably have more,” Dollar said.

Quakes of this size would not be expected to cause significant damage or injury, he said.

“If you’re right in the area, you might have something knocked off a shelf,” he said.

The quakes are consistent with the Whittier fault zone, Dollar said, although scientists do not know precisely know which fault generated the quake.

Early reports from those who felt the Wednesday morning quake came from Aliso Viejo, Anaheim, Brea, Buena Park, Capistrano Beach, Cypress, Dana Point, Foothill Ranch, Fountain Valley, Fullerton, Garden Grove, Huntington Beach, Irvine, La Habra, Ladera Ranch, Laguna Beach, Laguna Hills, Laguna Niguel, Newport Beach, Orange, Placentia, Rancho Santa Margarita, San Clemente, San Juan Capistrano, Santa Ana, Stanton, Tustin, Westminster and Yorba Linda.

Outside Orange County, reports also came from Alhambra, Beverly Hills, Carlsbad, Chino Hills, Corona, Glendale, Long Beach, Los Angeles, Malibu, Moreno Valley, North Hollywood, Oceanside, Ontario, Riverside, San Diego, San Pedro, Santa Monica, Torrance, Whittier and a variety of other locations.

The Tuesday night quake, two miles east-northeast of Yorba Linda and six miles south-southwest of Chino Hills, was followed within a minute by a magnitude 2.7 aftershock, earthquake reports show.

In Orange County, the quake was reportedly felt in Aliso Viejo, Anaheim, Brea, Buena Park, Capistrano Beach, Costa Mesa, Cypress, Dana Point, Foothill Ranch, Fountain Valley, Fullerton, Garden Grove, Huntington Beach, Irvine, La Habra, Ladera Ranch, Laguna Beach, Laguna Hills, Laguna Niguel, Laguna Woods, Lake Forest, Mission Viejo, Newport Beach, Orange, Rancho Santa Margarita, San Clemente, San Juan Capistrano, Santa Ana, Stanton, Sunset Beach, Surfside, Tustin, Westminster and Yorba Linda.

The quake was also felt in Corona, Lake Elsinore, Long Beach, Los Angeles, North Hollywood, Northridge, Oceanside, Pasadena, Riverside, San Bernardino, San Diego, San Pedro, Santa Monica, Torrance, West Covina, Whittier and Woodland Hills, among many other places in Southern California.

If a loved one was the victim of wrongful death that was caused by negligence because the property owners failed to take adequate precautions in the event of an earthquake, it is important that you contact a committed and dedicated personal injury lawyer to help you decide if you should file a lawsuit. A competent and reputable injury lawyer can help you receive the compensation you deserve for your pain and suffering.

Vandalism Found on Chick-fil-A Store

Chick-fil-A (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

The protests and protests-against-protests have made big headlines involving Chick-fil-A. The fast food restaurant, famous for its Southern style chicken sandwiches, has voiced its opinion on gay marriage, leading activists and loyal customers to speak out for or against Chick-fil-A.

On Friday, August 3, a Chick-Fil-A location in Torrance was found vandalized. One side of a Chick-fil-A wall has been found with the phrase “Tastes Like Hate” with a small cow painted to the side of it. The phrase was written in child-like script to mirror the “Eat Mor Chiken” slogan the chicken restaurant is famous for. This graffiti had appeared to have happened overnight. Police officers still do not know who the graffiti artists were.

The vandalism was a response to the traditional marriage view the Chick-fil-A president, Dan Cathy, announced on an online publication. On Wednesday, August 1, a “Chick-fil-A Appreciation Day” was held where customers who support Dan Cathy’s comment came into a nearby Chick-fil-A restaurant and purchased a meal. As a response to the appreciation day, supporters of gay rights held a campaign called “National Same-Sex Kiss Day at Chick-fil-A”. Participants would go into the store and kiss a partner of the same gender as a way to show Chick-fil-A their support of gay rights.

The Chick-fil-A appreciation day held on Wednesday had reportedly broken sales records for the store. It was former Arkansas Governor, Mike Huckabee, who propelled the movement and encouraged Christians and traditional family supporters to flock to Chick-fil-A to show Dan Cathy their support.

Since Cathy’s remark on same-sex marriage, the privately-held chain has been receiving numerous criticisms and controversy. The comment was made on July 16 when a Southern Baptist publication quoted the restaurant president talking about the biblical definition of a family unit. Since then, everything has spiraled into debates, protests, and support.

Bluntly Christian, the restaurant closes on Sundays and has always publicized their religious beliefs. It is only recently that individuals have been attacking the restaurant’s religious standpoint. Places such as Chicago, Washington, and San Francisco proclaimed that Chick-fil-A will no longer be allowed at their area. This also has caused a stir-up as people argue whether or not a business can be prohibited at a region solely because of their political or religious point of view.

The recent vandalism on the Southern Californian Chick-fil-A is evidence that many people have opposing views. However, this is not cause to act up and destroy property. Riots and demonstrations should never be violent and should not have to cause harm to anybody else.

Hazing Goes Too Far, Teacher and Students Arrested

Hazing seems to be a taboo when it comes to schools, social clubs, and sporting events. While hazing rituals can be a bonding quality to help initiate new comers into a club, many times it can get out of hand. Many schools and clubs ban any kind of hazing, refusing to get involved in any probable damages or personal injury accusations. For a school in Southern California, however, a teacher is getting accused of initiating hazing rituals on students.

These types of behaviors and carelessness carried out by adults can cause serious pain and suffering as well as personal injuries to innocent victims. To make matters worse, the victims of the teacher were still in high school, possibly minors. He had also encouraged other minors to participate in acts involving endangering and injuring other minors. Such ignorance and negligence is troubling.

On Saturday, June 23, a high school teacher and four other students were arrested for assaulting another high school student. The 27-year old teacher, Emmanuel Del Rose, was booked under the suspicion of encouraging other students to victimize a fellow classmate. Police investigators have claimed that Del Rosa had facilitated some of his students to begin hazing activities in order to limit and eliminate any misbehaving in the classroom.

At least one student victim had suffered minor injuries. The students arrested had been booked with suspicion of assault and child endangerment. There are no specifics yet as to what occurred during hazing rituals but it is possible personal injuries may have taken place.

The four students who were also arrested on Saturday took part of the assault Del Rosa had initiated. One 18-year old student, Fernando Salgado, is accused of child cruelty against a person under 18 years of age, attempted sodomy, rape, and mayhem. He will be appearing in a Fontana courtroom on Tuesday. The other three students arrested were juveniles.

More details have not been release as police officials are still performing an investigation. There is no word yet whether Del Rosa had facilitated similar activities in previous classroom sessions.

The Fontana Unifies School District officials had reported to police officers that at least one of their students had been assaulted. The report was put in on Friday, June 22. Del Rosa was arrested for suspicion of child cruelty with a $100,000 bail. He was released on Sunday, June 24.

Del Rosa was a summer school teacher at A.B. Miller High School. Several students from the high school have been interviewed by investigators.

Being involved in unacceptable hazing rituals can prove to be harmful—physically, mentally, and emotionally. Someone else’s careless behavior should not go by unnoticed. If you have been the victim of personal injury, call a San Bernardino personal injury attorney today. These types of acts are unacceptable and unfair to you as the victim. File a claim and start fighting for your rights today.

U.S. Commerce Secretary Causes Car Accidents, Found Unconscious

Being a careful driver does not necessarily mean you will be safe on the road. Sometimes there are other distracted, negligent drivers out there who just may cause an unwanted accident. Obeying all the traffic rules and being a vigilant driver sadly does not protect you from outside dangers. When out on the road, you never know what other drivers are doing or thinking, or if they’re even focused on the road. Personal injury always occurs at inconvenient times; accidents are always untimely.

John Bryson, the U.S. Commerce Secretary, was involved in two car accidents Saturday, June 9 in the San Gabriel Valley. According to the Commerce Department, Bryson had suffered a seizure which caused the accidents. His car had reportedly collided with two other vehicles in a span of five minutes. Bryson was found unconscious in his car.

After the accidents, 68-year old Bryson was treated at an unnamed hospital in Southern California. He was held overnight for observation and examination then released. Right after leaving the hospital, Bryson headed back to Washington. The U.S. Commerce Secretary is currently being investigated for felony since one of the accidents was a hit-and-run.

The government official was driving a Lexus during his own personal time around Los Angeles. It was right after 5 p.m. when he rear-ended the other vehicles on South San Gabriel Boulevard. The first automobile he collided with was a Buick with a driver and two passengers inside. The car had been stopped at a railroad crossing to wait for a train to cross by. Bryson stopped to talk to these men before leaving, then accidentally hitting the Buick a second time. It was then that the three men followed his vehicle and called police authorities.

Continuing to drive into Rosemead, Bryson accidentally hit another vehicle in the intersection. When police officers finally found him, he was in his car, behind the wheel and unconscious. He was treated on the scene. There was no indication that the accidents were caused by any drugs or alcohol. Tests for any alcohol involved came back negative.

John Bryson was in the Los Angeles area after giving a commencement address at Pasadena Polytechnic School on Thursday, June 7.

Bryson has yet to give a comment about the Saturday afternoon mishaps.

In instances like these, the other people involved in the accident were not responsible for any of the injuries they may have received. They may have been driving in a very responsible manner when the accident occurred, not knowing that they were to be victims to a car accident. If you have been a victim to personal injury, don’t hesitate to take action. A California car accident attorney can help you sort out any questions you may have had since an accident. If an irresponsible driver has caused you pain and suffering, injuries, and even lost wages, it is in your right to take legal action and seek compensation for any harm and pain received.
