18-Year-Old Allegedly Leads Police on High-Speed Chase

18-Year-Old Allegedly Leads Police on High-Speed Chase

An 18-year-old was pulled from a white BMW after a high-speed chase ended on Pacific Coast Highway Thursday night. The chase allegedly exceeded 100 mph.

The incident began around 8:30 p.m. when police tried to stop the white BMW 7-Series on the 5 Freeway near Indiana St, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The 18-year-old driver is an UV Irvine student from China. When the roadway was clear, an officer attempted a PIT maneuver on the BMW. Rather than spinning out, the car simply swerved. The driver quickly pulled over and surrendered.

The chase ended on Pacific Coast Highway near Lunita Rd. around 9:15 p.m. The police handcuffed the 18-year-old and two passengers and put them all into squad cars.

The driver said the BMW was a new car and he recently obtained his driver’s license in an interview with NBC Los Angeles. He said he did not understand why he was being chased and was afraid of the California Highway Patrol.

According to officials, the student followed most of the traffic laws during the high-speed chase. He may not be facing as many charges as he would had he disobeyed the traffic laws.

In Southern California, two accidents occurred over the weekend that caused major distress for police officers and those involved. A Los Angeles crash produced one fatality and a San Diego collision left an injured child abandoned in a wrecked vehicle.

On Saturday afternoon in East Los Angeles, a crash occurred after police were led on a high-speed pursuit. A reckless driver in an SUV that may have been stolen sped away from the police after they attempted to pull him over. The chase lasted five minutes and concluded when the SUV crashed into a truck and another car.

The accident took place in El Sereno around the 5300 block of Poplar Boulevard. Paramedics arrived on the scene and immediately found one dead bystander.

Four others were injured from the accident, three men and one woman. One man was in critical condition, while the other three injured parties were reported to be in fair conditions.

The driver of the SUV tried to escape once more after exiting his wrecked vehicle, but officers caught up to him. He was arrested and suffered injuries from bites of a police dog.

The accident is still under investigation, but the driver will likely face criminal charges for both the status of the SUV and the results of the crash.

On Sunday evening in Old Town, San Diego, a vehicle collision occurred resulting with an injured child and a runaway driver. The accident was reported by witnesses who saw a truck dangling off of the edge of the Interstate 5 Southbound freeway.

California Highway Patrol rushed to the scene where they were told by witnesses that a man ran from the crash, despite there being an injured child in the backseat.

Officers found a two-year-old child strapped into the vehicle’s backseat as it hung off of the highway. The child’s condition is currently unknown; however, it was transported to Rady Children’s Hospital immediately.

The driver of the truck is suspected to be a Hispanic male in his 30s. He was seen wearing a white shirt, black shorts, and sandals. CHP is working hard to find the runaway and is currently investigating the registration information of the vehicle.

A big rig and another vehicle crashed into each other today, creating a massive traffic jam for this morning’s commuters. Though no injuries were reported, the accident was certainly serious.

The big rig that was hit was carrying 700 gallons of fuel. When the second vehicle collided with the truck, the entirety of that fuel spilled over the freeway. The spill spread across two miles of highway and consequently blocked three lanes of traffic on the northbound 405.

The accident occurred in West Los Angeles, around Waterford Street and Sepulveda Boulevard in Brentwood. In addition to the lane blockage at Montana Street, the onramps of Santa Monica Boulevard and Wilshire Boulevard were closed for hours after the accident.

Around 6:00 a.m. the collision occurred. The onramps and lanes were expected to be reopened fully at about 8:30 a.m. as stated by California Highway Patrol.

No injuries have been reported from the accident; however, traffic was hellish. It is important to be vigilant if you are found in situations like these as heavy traffic can create additional collisions.

Major Crash on 210 Freeway

The 210 Freeway in Pasadena, CA

This morning, your drive may have been severely halted if you take the 210 freeway to work. In the San Gabriel Valley, a big rig crashed and blocked lanes for both east- and westbound drivers.

The big rig carrying fruit overturned just before 5 a.m. The driver crashed through the center divider near Myrtle Avenue in Monrovia. It is unknown whether the driver or anyone else has suffered any injuries at this time.

The accident has blocked three of the westbound lanes and two eastbound lanes and is expected to be fully cleared around 9:15. California Highway Patrol is on the scene, working as quickly as it can to clear the highway and reopen the lanes.

Traffic is also heavy on the westbound 605 freeway due to the accident.

Los Angeles traffic is always frustrating, but this morning it became much worse for commuters. The closed lanes have caused an intense backup for anyone driving on the two freeways and hopefully CHP will be able to remove the truck by its estimated time, if not sooner.

Major accidents like this are not uncommon. Whether it is a 35,000 pound big rig or your own personal car, vehicle crashes can occur at anytime and the outcomes are never certain. If you or someone you know has been in an accident and is unsure about what to do next, contact an injury attorney today to find out more information.

Parents Vent Following Hemet Crash

High school students don’t always make the best drivers. There’s a reason why many parents want their children to wait until they’re over 18 to drive.

Six months after a Hemet High student plowed through a crowd of pedestrians near campus, seriously injuring eight students, many expressed disappointment and frustration he would not be charged.

Parents, students and community members expressed frustration and disappointment during an evening meeting Wednesday at Hemet High School to discuss a crash in front of the school in May that seriously injured eight students in a crosswalk.

The Riverside County district attorney’s office announced last month that no charges would be filed against the driver of the pickup truck, Daniel Carrillo, who at the time was a junior at the school.

The Wednesday meeting in the Hemet High Community Theater was just a short distance from the crosswalk where the accident occurred.

About 40 people were in the audience, including staff from the school.

The California Highway Patrol office in Banning initially reported the truck was going 50 mph in a 25 mph zone, weaving in and out of traffic, and ran a red light. Carrillo said his brakes failed.

The CHP said then that despite Carrillo’s claim, it expected criminal charges to be filed.

But the investigation by a Multidisciplinary Accident Team concluded the initial reports were off — the truck was doing 32 to 36 mph, not accelerating, and the tire calibration made the speedometer register 7 mph less than it was actually traveling.

It also concluded that brake failure was the primary cause of the crash and that it was highly likely there was transmission fluid in the brake’s master cylinder. The truck stopped after Carrillo ran the tires along the curb of Stetson Avenue.

Carrillo will face infractions for having poorly maintained brakes that caused an accident, but there was nothing in the investigation such as evidence of willfulness by Carrillo. He stopped talking to law enforcement at some time during the investigation.

Freeways Reopen Following Massive Truck Accidents

Early yesterday morning, nine big rigs collided in two crashes in the tunnels on the truck bypass route in the Newhall Pass. The collisions, tentatively blamed on speeding over what could have been wet roads, occurred on the southbound Golden State Freeway at the southbound Antelope Valley Freeway, with the first reported incident occurring at 3:07 a.m.

While there were minor injuries reported, no one was killed in these incidents.

The southbound truck route at the 5 and 14 Freeway transition roads reopened Tuesday afternoon after two separate collisions caused nine big rig trucks to jackknife, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The first collision involving four trucks occurred around 3 a.m., just north of Edison Road.

The second crash, involving five big rigs, took place a short time later at the north end of the tunnel.

Los Angeles County firefighters freed one big rig driver who was trapped just before 6 a.m. He was transported to a local hospital in stable condition.

At least six heavy duty tow trucks have been ordered to help clear the scene.

The causes of both accidents are under investigation. Officials suspect speed and weather may have been factors because it was raining at the time of the accidents.

One Injured in Freeway Shooting

In the middle of the night, before early morning commuters crowded the freeway, an eerie accident occurred on one Californian freeway. A shooting took place on the Santa Monica 10 Freeway, injuring one passenger in the car. The personal injury, pain, and suffering caused must have resulted in so much distress for the victim of the crime.

Early on Monday, August 20, an 18-year old man was wounded from a gunshot aimed by another passing vehicle driver. At a seemingly calm and still night, around 3:15 a.m., at least two shots were fired near La Brea Avenue. The California Highway Patrol is still searching for the suspect responsible for injuring the 18-year old passenger who was sitting in the front passenger seat. Officials stated that the passenger was shot in the neck as he was sitting in a red Ford Mustang. The other two occupants of the automobile were not injured.

The Eastbound 10 Freeway was shut down Monday morning for a couple of hours as authorities investigated the shooting that took place. They believe that the gunshots were fired from a dark-colored pickup truck that passed by the red Mustang. Immediately after the shooting, the people in the car drove off the freeway and called 911.

The victim whom was shot was brought to the hospital and fortunately was in stable condition. Prior to the shooting, the three individuals in the Mustang had been at a nightclub and a gas station. When talking to the police, they said that they were unaware of doing anything that might have sparked the shooting. So far, LAPD has few clues as to what motivation the shooters had for issuing gunfire.

CHP issued a Sig Alert to shut down part of the freeway where the shooting took place in order to conduct investigation on the incident. However, while the Los Angeles Police Department was trying to shut down the Santa Monica freeway in order to start investigation, a police cruiser was almost hit by a motorist in a silver Lexus SUV who had failed to stop. The Lexus driver was taken into custody and tested for possible intoxication while driving. Thankfully, no police officers received any personal injury from the close collision.

Not too many commuters had to suffer the freeway being shut down as the road was reopened at 5 a.m.—right when the first leg of the morning traffic would begin to get heavy. Monday travelers did not have to worry of any traffic on the LA freeway.

If you have been on the road or highway and have received personal injury due to another person’s negligent driving, you should contact a Los Angeles car accident attorney who can help you in your legal matters.
